When you leave home, your phone texts the people you choose with the time and the nearest road or landmark. It runs on its own: no app to open, nothing to tap.

Set up in two minutes

1. Open the file from our email and tap Add Shortcut.
2. Pick the people who should hear from you, straight from your contacts.
3. In Shortcuts, open Automation, choose When I Leave Home, then Run Immediately.

What it asks for

• Location — once, to name where you are leaving from.
• Messages — to send the text shown above.
• openstreetmap.org — to look up the nearest landmark. Free, no account.
