1. UPI is now ~78% of digital payments by volume

Up from 71% in 2024. Cards-only checkouts now lose 30-40% of mobile customers vs UPI-first checkouts. UPI Intent flow specifically converts at ~92% vs Collect's 75%.

2. WhatsApp Business API is mandatory past 2 staff

SMBs with 2+ people handling customer messages can no longer scale on the free WhatsApp Business App. BSP plans (Interakt / Wati / AiSensy) at ₹2-15K/mo are now baseline operational tooling.

3. Custom CRM beats SaaS at 5+ users

Per-user pricing models (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho) exceed the cost of building a custom CRM by year 2 for any team past ~5 users. Custom CRM TCO over 18 months is 60-75% lower than SaaS for non-standard workflows.

4. AI agents work for 4 use cases (and fail at most others)

Production-ready: WhatsApp triage (85-92% accuracy), lead enrichment (80-90%), document extraction (92-97%), content drafts (quality varies). Still flaky: long-running multi-step agents, autonomous purchasing, open-ended research.

5. India agency rates have stabilised at $15-40/hr effective

6. LLM-O is the under-competed SEO play of 2026

7. Self-hosted LLMs cross commercial viability at 5M tokens/month

Below ~5M tokens/month, OpenAI / Claude APIs win on cost. Above that, self-hosted Llama 70B on AWS hits crossover; multi-GPU clusters dominate at 50M+ tokens. Data residency requirements push regulated SMBs to self-hosted earlier.

8. Hindi + regional language web is real revenue

Hindi-belt SMBs targeting domestic see ~30% conversion lift from Hindi UI vs English-only. Tier-2/3 cities especially. Tamil / Telugu / Bengali / Marathi follow same pattern in their respective regions.

9. DPDP compliance is now table stakes

Notified rules (2024-25) make DPDP-compliant consent capture, data principal rights flow, and breach notification mandatory for any Indian website handling personal data. Implementation cost: ~₹15K retrofit, default for new builds.

10. Direct-order websites are recovering 25-30% revenue from aggregator commissions
