The situation

An illustrative example: a single-outlet electrical hardware shop in Lucknow with 7 staff was running on a paper bill book + a daily Excel sheet + Tally on the back-office computer. The owner manually added up the day's billing every evening, frequently disagreed with the cash count, and never knew which items were running low until a customer asked for them. He had ~2,400 regulars whose numbers lived in his personal phone, with no way to message them about new stock arrivals.

What we built

We built a tight 4-feature tool in 3 weeks: (1) GST billing with thermal printer support, (2) a stock register that updates automatically from each bill with low-stock WhatsApp alerts to the owner, (3) a customer khata with one-tap WhatsApp reminder for overdue payments, (4) a simple broadcast feature for new-arrival messages to opted-in regulars. Hosted on a ₹400/month Hostinger Business plan. Total build: ₹52,000.

The expected outcome

Daily cash reconciliation went from a 30-minute argument to a 2-minute glance at the dashboard. Stock-out incidents dropped sharply because low-stock alerts came 4-5 days before items ran out. The first new-arrival broadcast (about a deal on inverter batteries) brought in roughly ₹1.4L of unscheduled sales in a week. The owner stopped staying late to add up the day's takings.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just use Khatabook or Vyapar?

Honest answer — Khatabook, Vyapar, Marg, BillCut, MyBillBook are all good and many small businesses are perfectly served by them. Custom starts winning when (1) you need 2-3 of those features in one tool with your specific quirks, (2) per-staff pricing or feature-gating starts hurting, (3) you want WhatsApp broadcast and lead capture wired in, or (4) the off-the-shelf UI is what your staff hates and refuses to use. We will tell you honestly during the free call whether to stay with the SaaS.

Will my staff actually use it?

This is the entire question. Adoption is the project. We design the UI for the actual people who will use it (counter staff, often Hindi-first, often comfortable with WhatsApp and basic Android). One-day in-person training, printed cheat-sheet, 30-day side-by-side support. If your staff uses WhatsApp comfortably, they will use this tool.

What about GST e-invoicing — is it included?

GST e-invoicing portal integration is included for businesses above the ₹5 cr turnover threshold (the current mandate as of 2026). For smaller businesses we generate GST-compliant invoices and export GSTR-1 / GSTR-3B summaries that your accountant or Tally can ingest directly.

Can it print to my existing thermal printer?

Yes for popular models — TVS RP3160 / RP3220, Atom HD500, Bixolon SRP, Epson TM-T82. We test on your specific model during build. Bluetooth + USB + LAN all supported.

What if my internet goes down?

For tools that absolutely cannot be offline (a billing counter), we add an offline-capable PWA layer that queues bills locally and syncs when the connection returns. Adds a small amount to the build but worth it for retail counters in tier-2/3 cities.

How much will WhatsApp messages cost?

For under 256 contacts/broadcast you can use the free WhatsApp Business app — ₹0. Above that you need WhatsApp Business API: ~₹0.11-2.30 per conversation depending on category (utility / marketing / authentication). For a 3,000-contact shop sending 2 broadcasts a month, expect ₹600-1,400/month all-in. Significantly cheaper than per-seat SaaS.

What happens if Big Helpers disappears?

You have the source code, the database, and a deployment guide. The stack is standard PHP/Laravel + PostgreSQL or MySQL — any local developer in any Indian city can take over. We have been a registered Pvt Ltd since 2008, but we still design for the case where we are not around.

Is GST included in the price?

No — pricing on this page is excluding GST. As a Pvt Ltd we charge 18% GST on the invoice. The full breakdown comes with the proposal.
